Why Does Cold Air Come Out of My Furnace in Harrisburg, NC?
When functioning correctly, furnaces shouldn’t blow cold air unless you set them to “fan mode.” If your furnace is blowing cold air in your home in Harrisburg, NC, then there could be something wrong with it. We’ll discuss some possibilities regarding your furnace blowing cold air.
Dirt on the Flame Sensor
The flame sensor detects the heat of the flame. That heat creates a tiny electric current to the electronic board, which tells the furnace that the flame is on. With dirt or grime on the sensor, it won’t be able to detect the flame.
If that happens, then it could make the furnace short cycle. Sometimes, though, it could continue to run for a short while without the flame on, blowing cold air.
Condensate Lines With Clogs
The condensate lines consist of hoses and/or pipes that lead condensed water vapor elsewhere. Generally, that’s outside or into a sink or drain near your furnace. Clogged lines lead to water backing up.
For safety, if water backs up into the furnace, the burners will turn off. When this happens, the furnace will blow cold air until it turns off.
Ducts With Leaks
Leaky ducts allow cooler air to seep in. In this instance, even though your furnace is blowing warm air the way it should, that warm air will mix with the cooler air. Then, the air coming out of your interior vents won’t be as warm as you expect.
A Thermostat That’s Set to ‘On’ Rather Than ‘Auto’
Sometimes, the necessary repair relates to the thermostat. For example, if it is in the “On” position instead of “Auto,” then the fan will continue to run even after the burners turn off.
